When Motivation Hinders Achievement

I have set a list of goals for this summer. I have tons of “free” time to spend getting it done. However, recently my motivation has been very little. It doesn’t help that I have gotten addicted to started watching Veronica Mars. It’s a fantastic show, but I think I need to make better use of my time. Another “hinderance” to getting anything done is my husband’s new work schedule. He’s working 12 hour shifts – some days and some nights. Those days that he works nights I have to be quiet and cannot do things that would be loud because he has to sleep during the day. Last night Kevin had a rough time learning how to sleep without his daddy home. He was shaking and constantly looking around him. I guess that makes two of us struggling with this new schedule. I know it will all work out in the end but this first week has been rough.

So that leaves me to today. Today I have decided to write out everything I need to do (to complete my goals). Then I have divided it up into the months that I have for this summer – June, July, August. I hope this will help channel my focus and help me to be able to accomplish everything I need to get done.

Oh, on a side note I plan on posting some of my school ideas and other’s ideas and how I implement them in the classroom soon here.

Summer 2014 Goals

Although this is late, here are my goals for this summer:

  1. RELAX!
  2. Spend as much time as I can with my hubby and puppy
  3. Exercise and lose weight (goal is to workout at least 5 days a week)
  4. Have all my First Quarter materials entered into our Cloud
  5. All current materials I use made digital
  6. Clean and organize our second bedroom (aka storage)
  7. Read at least one book a week
  8. Learn a new song on the piano and on the cello
  9. Try one new recipe a week
  10. Create a Phonics program for my classroom

My goal is not to accomplish ALL of them (but that would be nice), but to accomplish as many as possible. My #1 goal this summer is to just RELAX. Anything else I get done is extra. 🙂

What about you? Do you have anything you would like to accomplish this summer?

School Outservice

This week is the outservice at school. The last day of school was Friday! I will miss my students but I’m glad for some “me” time (or “me and Kevin”). This summer I have A LOT of goals so I will be posting about those shortly. BUT, I have to make it through this week. We have our Tablet training Tuesday and Wednesday – though I’m not sure how tricky it is to use a tablet. Anyway, I will be posting at the end of this week or next week to give my goals for the summer. I am EXTREMELY excited for the summer and can’t wait to get things done relax. 🙂

Life as I Know It

Life has been CRAZY the last few weeks. My husband started his new job on Monday and we are both super excited about it. On Saturday we went to a friend’s wedding and then raced back to move to our new apartment. We are still working on moving out of the old place. It’s amazing how tiring a move can be if you move up to a third floor apartment.

This week is Spring Break for me so I have this time to work on a few goals:

  1. Unpack the house
  2. Finish moving out of the old apartment
  3. Spend lots of time with Kevin
  4. All the laundry done
  5. April Lesson Plans Done
  6. Beat the LEGO movie video game
  7. Begin my new diet – Gluten Free and Dairy Free
  8. Watch an entire season of a TV show (TBD)
  9. Spend as much time with my husband as I can (because he is amazing!!!)
  10. Figure out what to add to my math time at school
  11. Update my classroom blog

Well those are the ones I plan on working on. Lord willing, I will keep you posted! Until later, au revoir!

New Years Goals!

The school year is about to begin! It is hard to believe that the summer is almost over. Summers fly by faster every year. To begin the year off the right way, I am linking up with I {heart} Recess and her new years goals linky!

  • Personal Goals: Blog more consistently. I have the time, I just choose to do other things. As for eating vegetarian, I am vegetarian going on strong for three days now and I feel great! Have you ever come home with a ton of stuff to do for school? It makes the thought of going to school the next day not a happy one. So, I plan on doing as much work at school so I can come home, relax, and enjoy time with my family.
  • Organization Goals: Have you ever had a long day at school and come home to a messy house that needs to be cleaned? Not a very happy feeling. To avoid that I am trying to keep the house clean by picking up a little each day. Ever come to the day before papers are to come home and you look at your stack and nearly faint because it is a foot tall? Ya, that was me last year, but not anymore! I am going to grab that bull by the horns and grade everything on the day it is turned in.
  • Planning Goals: Last year at the end of the year I started doing each month’s lesson plans and papers before the month began. It helped sooo much! It took work, but it was worth it in the end. I plan to do that again this year too.
  • Professional Goals: Reading Centers. I personally have a very negative attitude towards centers in the classroom because they take so much prep for the teacher. This year I am going to just go with it despite my negative feelings towards it.
  • Student Goals: One thing I always struggle with is being firm. If I say it, it needs to happen. I am going to write down EVERYTHING this year to help with that. I also want to challenge my students to be better than they think they can. When you challenge students they perform more than they think!
  • Motto: “Wherever you are, be all there.” Whether I am at school, home, grocery store, or anywhere, I want to give 100%. I don’t want to be at school and be thinking about that nice vacation and how I just “have to get through today.” We have all been there before. Trust me, I think I’m the worst culprit! Not this year though! I’m going to give it all!

So there are my goals, do you have any goals for this school year or for the rest of the year?

Pecan pie

This recipe is brought to us from the Pioneer Woman. I needed a good pecan pie recipe and who better than her? You can find this recipe here.

I followed it as it was written. I cannot wait to have people over to try it!

Do you like pecan pie? What’s your favorite pie?

Cleaning/Organizing the Second Bathroom

We just moved last month and now we are on the quest to clean/organize the house and get settled in. Up until now we unpacked what we needed and left everything else to just sit there. The first room I am tackling is the Second bathroom. We haven’t had to use it so it just sat with boxes/bags of stuff waiting to be put up.

This is how it looked like before:

Yes, pretty rough. These are the steps I took to make it clean and organized:

  1. Take out all the stuff that needs to be organized.
  2. Clean everything!
  3. Divide the stuff that was in the bathroom into piles sorting them out.
  4. Place the items neatly into tubs for easy access. The main reason I did this is because our storage cabinets in the bathroom are narrow and deep. This will avoid frustration in the future. (I bought these tubs from Walmart  for less than $2 each!)
  5. Place tubs on the shelves.
  6. Step back and enjoy the organization!

The after!

How have you organized your bathrooms? Anything that has worked… or not worked?
