National Hot Dog Day

For National Hot Dog Day, Mommy gave us each our own hot dog! I love hot dogs!

School Outservice

This week is the outservice at school. The last day of school was Friday! I will miss my students but I’m glad for some “me” time (or “me and Kevin”). This summer I have A LOT of goals so I will be posting about those shortly. BUT, I have to make it through this week. We have our Tablet training Tuesday and Wednesday – though I’m not sure how tricky it is to use a tablet. Anyway, I will be posting at the end of this week or next week to give my goals for the summer. I am EXTREMELY excited for the summer and can’t wait to get things done relax. 🙂

Mother’s Day

Mother’s day used to be a day that I looked forward to. Then God started placing the desire for my husband and I to have a child. Then it got hard, especially when I had to take medicines and things weren’t working. Then I got pregnant. We were both so happy. Our friends were happy, our parents were happy, hey, even our dog was happy. But then our joy shattered when we went in for an ultrasound and were told we were going to have a miscarriage. It was the hardest thing that has ever happened to me. It was just as hard as losing my best friend of many years when my dog died. It was just as hard as when my now-husband broke up with me for 12 days. This coming Sunday will be my first Mother’s Day as a mother. Yet, I cannot celebrate it like everyone else. I cannot hug my child or go out and enjoy special time with my child. My child is now with his Heavenly Father. I know he is in good hands and I can take joy in that. It is so comforting to think that even though I will not ever see my child here on earth, I know I will see him one day in Heaven. Oh, how I yearn for that day! Not only do I get to see my Savior, but I get to see my child as well. So if you see me struggling this Mother’s Day (or any other) you will know why. It’s hard to not spend my Mother’s Day in the usual way. I have to spend it another way. I pray that the Lord gives strength to all those like me – who have lost a child and still live with the daily pain of it.

My Mom’s Killer Guac Recipe

I was going through the pictures on my phone (because I have too many) and I found my mom’s recipe for guac. It is amazing! Now I don’t like Guac but I like this one. It is very good with lime tortilla chips!

Mom’s Guacamole Recipe:

Add these ingredients and then mash together:

  • 1 avocado
  • lime juice (drain)
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 t cumin
  • 1/4 t Cayenne

Then add

  • 1/2 onion
  • 2 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 T cilantro
  • 1/2 a jalapeño
  • 1 large clove of garlic
  • more lime juice (to taste)

Make sure as you are mixing it not to mash it up too much. It is best a little chunky. ENJOY!

Is there a recipe that your mom makes that you love?

Let’s Get Acquainted Linky Party!

I was visiting Flying into First Grade’s blog and found a linky party beginning! As a second grade teacher I love looking at other’s ideas and trying them in my classroom. I cannot wait for next school year to start – there are so many things I’m going to try!

Topic- Tic Tac Toe
How it Works:  Look at the graphic below.  It is a Tic Tac Toe board filled with different categories.  You will post about three of these categories but they have to make Tic Tac Toe.  For example, you can choose to write about 3 topics that go vertical, or 3 topics that go horizontal, or three topics that go diagonal.

I am going diagonal from the bottom left to the top right.

 1. “My favorite grade to teach is second grade.”

This next year will be my fifth year of teaching! Time has gone by so fast! My first year I taught third grade and the next year fourth. Then my administrator moved me down to second grade – and I fell in love with it! Students at this age still love their teacher to death and you have very few instances of disrespect. The subject matter is simple and there is so much they do not know yet! I love broadening their knowledge of things!

2. My favorite school memory as a kid was in history class.

I was in the tenth grade and my youth pastor was the teacher of the class. He loves history! He loved history so much that his love spilled over to me. Now history is one of my favorite subjects. (I married a History majo, too. 🙂 ) Anyways, for one class his assignment for us was to act out part of our textbook. It was so much fun! I still remember two of the boys in my class “sword-fighting” with PVC pipes and making a big dent in the wall. Definitely my favorite school memory.

3. My dream vacation is to travel to Antarctica.

I have always wanted to go there and recently I just found out they have cruises down there! It’s a bummer they cost so much. I love Antarctica because of the snow (I love snow as I am from Colorado) and the mysteriousness of it. I also love all the cute animals that live down there.

Well that is it! Why don’t you join in the fun as well and head over to Flying into First Grade and try it yourself.

Enough Already!!!

I have been sick for a week and a day and it is getting old VERY quickly. On Monday I had to take the day off of work because of a fever. I can’t be around the kids if I have a fever. This was my first day off because of being sick ever as a teacher. It is kinda sad to see a fellow teacher and I watch our kids at recess/carline together. We will take turns coughing our lungs out. Lol! Today was the first soccer practice I’ve run since last Friday. Man, did it wipe me out! I did not even run with them like I will occasionally. I have been up for the last 4 nights coughing. The cough syrup didn’t help any. I think tonight will be a NyQuil night so hopefully I can get some sleep and let my hubby sleep some too. On the bright side I am still alive and I am able to go teach every day right now. I enjoy my time with my hubby and my puppy. They always make me feel better. 🙂
